Presented at the Gaur Collection’s home gallery, this retrospective brought together approximately 130 photographs spanning six decades of Jyoti Bhatt’s practice. Three sections—Living Traditions, Portraits of Artists, and Abstractions—explored his engagement with rural visual cultures, his portraits of fellow artists and experimental self-portraits, and his inventive use of light, texture, and reflection.
The exhibition revealed the interplay of observation and experimentation that connects Bhatt’s photography with his work as a painter and printmaker. Its research continues in the forthcoming monograph Faces and Forms: Jyoti Bhatt’s Photographic Journey, expanded through study of his extensive archive.
